Extreme Wellness Clinic, under the direction of Dr. James E. Pickens, has incorporated HCG into our Health & Wellness philosophy.
What is HCG? HCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, a hormone produced by the placenta of a developing pregnancy. Its main action is to maintain the corpus luteum and hence the secretion of oestrogen and progesterone until the placenta has developed sufficiently to take over hormonal production.
How is it used? Human chorionic gonadotropin is extensively used as a parenteral fertility medication in lieu of luteinizing hormone. In the presence of one or more mature ovarian follicles, ovulation can be triggered by the administration of HCG.
As HCG supports the corpus luteum, administration of HCG is used in certain circumstances to enhance the production of progesterone.
During first few months of pregnancy, the transmission of HIV-1 from woman to fetus is extremely rare. It has been suggested that this is due to the high concentration of HCG, and that the beta-subunit of this protein is active against HIV-1.
*Recently it has been determined that HCG can be used to help a person lose weight. HCG helps the body burn fat. Combined with a healthy diet and exercise it can be a powerful tool for weight loss. Extreme Wellness Clinic, under the direction of Dr. James E. Pickens, has incorporated HCG into our Health & Wellness philosophy.

*(HCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity. There is no substantial evidence that it increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes a more attractive or "normal" distribution of fat, or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restricted diets.)
